An intimate 66-seat restaurant, The Café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily — including its inspired take on New England favorites as well as regional Indian specialties prepared by a team of chefs formerly among the culinary brigade at the Taj Hotels’ flagship in Mumbai, Taj Mahal Palace.
The Café, a culinary landmark for over 55 years, features a wall of windows overlooking the ever-changing view of Newbury Street. Just steps from the Theatre District, The Café makes dining before or after a theatre performance a relaxing pleasure. On Saturdays and Sundays, an à la carte Brunch is served until 2:30 p.m. — and is one of Boston’s most popular.
Lunch features a choice of soups, salads and creative appetizers such as House Made Charcuterie and Ahi Tuna Tartare. Entree Salad options could include Lobster Cobb Salad and Taj Spicy Shrimp Salad. Other lunch entree selections offered are Maine Lobster BLT served with herbed frites, tarragon aioli and traditional slaw; The Taj Burger on brioche bun with Jack cheese, horse radish aioli and crispy leeks; and Free Range Chicken Pot Pie, brimming with vegetables beneath a flaky crust.
Indian lunch specialties include Dal Makhani with urad black lentils slowly simmered with tomato and a touch of cream; Paneer Khatta Pyaz, featuring a delicate combination of cottage cheese and pickled onion; and Murgh Tikka Masala, chicken fillets tossed in onion tomato masala.
For dinner, appetizers include the signature Taj Boston Clam Chowder as well as seasonal specialties such as Prime Steak Tartare and Warm Lump Crab Cake. Entrees on offer have included Truffled Maltagliati, randomly shaped pasta with foraged mushrooms, piquillo peppers, pecorino and hazelnuts; Pan Seared Diver Scallops and Pan Roasted Muscovy Duck Breast.
Featured Indian dinner specialties are Lasooni Makai Palak, with spinach and tender corn tempered with garlic; Singhada Mutter, water chestnuts and green pea curry; and Lamb Rogan Josh, a traditional Kashmiri lamb preparation.
Taj Boston occupies the city’s most celebrated location at Arlington and Newbury streets. Overlooking the Public Garden, the property is within walking distance of historic sites and is just four miles from Logan International Airport. Opened in 1927, the luxury hotel features 273 guestrooms, including 45 suites, many of which offer wood-burning fireplaces.
